Notes for Samuel D. (Spouse 1)
Floyd County Land Records record Samuel D. Saunders gave his son Fleming (Sr.) 3000 acres land. Fleming Sr. living in Campbell Co. VA deeded R. C. and Flemming Jr same land. Deed recorded in Floyd Co. VA. Moses Saunders (black man) bought 115 of these acres from R. C. and Fleming Jr. By oral tradition a Moses Saunders is suppose to be Powell Saunders father, his mother is Agnes. There are slaves of Samuel D. Saunders by those names listed in his will but his slave Moses mother is listed as Kitty not Agnus.124 Samuel D. and Mary Ingles Saunder's son, John Ingles Saunders (see his separate individual sheet) married Ann Elizabeth Booth, daughter of John DeWitt Booth and niece of Moses Greer Booth. John B. Saunders son of John Ingles and Ann Elizabeth Booth Saunders was the executor of Moses Greer Booths estate in 1874 giving funds to Reuben Ferguson, Edmund Clarkston and Betsy Woods whose children later settled on Dry Fork Creek in Bland County. Lee Powell Saunders and his wife Linia Price Saunders settled much later on Dry Fork after moving from Floyd Co. VA.
The inventory and appraisement of Samuel D. Saunders in January 1852 included 155 slaves.124
